FAQ

Common questions

What happens in the first session?

Your first session is an extended 80-minute intake where we get to know each other. I'll ask about your history, what's bringing you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. We'll also talk about my approach and make sure we're a good fit. There's no pressure to dive into anything heavy — think of it as building the foundation.

How long does therapy typically take?

It depends on your goals. Some clients come for focused, short-term work (12–20 sessions) around a specific issue like anxiety or a life transition. Others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns. We'll check in regularly about your progress and adjust as needed. You're always in the driver's seat.

Do you accept insurance?

I'm an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance directly. However, I provide superbills (detailed receipts) that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse 50–80% of the session fee. I also accept HSA and FSA cards, and I have a limited number of sliding-scale spots available.

What's the difference between regular and intensive sessions?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes (individual) or 75 minutes (couples) and typically happen weekly or biweekly. Intensive sessions are 2–3 hours and are designed for deeper, concentrated work — especially useful for EMDR processing, couples breakthroughs, or times when you need more space to work through complex issues. We can mix both formats based on your needs.

Can I switch between in-person and telehealth?

Absolutely. Many of my clients do a mix of both. Some prefer in-person for deeper work and telehealth for weeks when logistics are tricky. We'll find whatever rhythm works best for your life. Telehealth sessions are available to anyone located in Oregon or Washington.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee. I know life happens — if an emergency comes up, just reach out and we'll figure it out together. My policy exists to respect both our time, not to add stress to yours.
