Common questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a thorough intake. I'll ask about your history, current concerns, and what you want to get out of therapy. From there, we build a clear treatment plan with measurable goals. It's structured, not open-ended. You'll leave knowing exactly what we're working on and why.

How long does therapy typically last?

It depends on your goals. For focused CBT work like panic or a specific phobia, 12 to 16 sessions is common. Deeper work around relational patterns or identity tends to take 6 to 12 months. We reassess regularly so you always know where you stand and when it makes sense to step back.

Do you accept insurance?

I'm an out-of-network provider. I provide monthly superbills you can submit for potential reimbursement through your PPO plan. Many clients receive 50 to 80 percent back. I also accept HSA and FSA cards. If cost is a concern, let's talk about it during the consult.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I offer secure video sessions for anyone located in Illinois. Telehealth works well for most of the work I do, including CBT, EMDR preparation, and ongoing therapy. Some clients alternate between in-person and virtual depending on their schedule.

What's your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are billed at the full session rate. This policy protects both our time and ensures consistent progress in your treatment.

What is EMDR and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation, typically guided eye movements, to help your brain reprocess traumatic or distressing memories. Instead of just talking about what happened, EMDR targets the way the memory is stored in your nervous system. Most clients notice a significant reduction in emotional charge within a few sessions. It's one of the most well-researched treatments for trauma and PTSD.
